Australia Sustainable Forest Management
The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Forestry is responsible for helping the industries become more competitive, profitable and sustainable.
In 2007 and 2008 Qualia Creative collaborated with Porter Novelli Australia to produce a suite of collateral for the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Forestry promoting the sustainable aspects of the Australian timber industry to international audiences. FIve different versions were produced for Japan, China, France, Germany and Australia.
This case-study portrays the developmental images and finished spreads that represent some of the designs produced.
THE DESIGN BRIEF
The objective was to promote to international audiences the sustainable management of Australia's Tasmanian forestry industry. The design needed to accommodate translation into various languages and incorporate iconography that was understood by these cultures.
THE PROCESS
Our concept incorporated an illustrative symbol called an Enso (refer to the definition below) and was employed to communicate the renewable nature of a forest's growth cycle. While simple in its form, about one hundred versions were drawn. The below version was decided for intuitive reasons (ie. aesthetic evaluation) as it resonated closest to the desired feeling.
The below Enso was drawn using an ink and stone from the Qing dynasty
