Extract from profile:

If you believe in serendipity, you'll understand why I felt when I sat down with the Qualia Creative team recently, that I was meant to meet them. After checking out their rich and diverse portfolio of work I realised I've been a long time fan of QC's using many of their creative projects as inspiration to adorn my own mood boards.

As fate often has it, I began to hear more about QC this year with my work at Melbourne Spring Fashion Festival when I heard QC were doing the sets for the breakfast business series, I thought I must meet the creative's behind this studio.

Having worked with and interviewed many creative agencies, I am always interested to see the studio space that enables these minds to take flight and QC's is by far one of my favourite. Equal parts New York starving artist loft and contemporary light filled studio; this space has creativity oozing from its pores.

When chatting with the team, a great sense of irony, humour and analytical musings pepper the conversation, which is evident when you read their 2010 portfolio. A favourite piece I shall quote is the below:

Qualia Creative is a brand identity and graphic design agency. (A bizarre life form known for its proud mating displays of ironic facial hair and thick-rimmed glasses. Lacking the necessary physical attributes required for hunting, these strange creatures are dependent on other businesses for their own survival.)

So I talked all things design, Melbourne, fashion, retail and visual stimulation with the QC team which comprises of David Gill – DG (Managing Director), Dave Smith - DS (Creative Director) and Brett Hamm – BH (Research & Copywriting).

L'Oréal Melbourne Fashion Festival 2011 – Preview

Well... 52 metres of timber; 12 panels of ply; 56 braces; 156 screws and 25 metres of cable has finally come together to form the 3.6 metre stage of the L'Oréal Melbourne Fashion Festival's seminar series from 16 March to 18 March.

Here is an initial shot taken during the bump-in. Watch this space for further event photos.

What's on for this summer 2011

Happy New Year y’all!

The city’s waking up from its holiday hangover, so it must be time to get back to work. Thankfully there’s lots of creative projects to keep our minds from pining for holidays: Set designs for the L’Oréal Melbourne Fashion Festival and Moomba, copy for Create & Communicate 2C and CHARD International, and the launch of brand identities for Tequila Tromba and a brand spankin’ new energy drink.

On top of that, the printed exhibition we’ve been compiling over the last year, Black Mirror, is about to be unleashed! And thanks to contributing artists, designers and writers from all over the world, it’s looking better than we could have ever hoped.

Yessir. It’s shapin’ up to be a hectic but exciting year for the big Q!

So with the start of the New Year and with such exciting stuff on the horizon, we’ve decided to start maintaining a blog of our inspirations, projects, random thoughts and shenanigans. This here be it.

Check back often to see what’s new and crackin’ in the world of Qualia Creative.

At Qualia we believe that "if there is no input, there is no output". Therefore we encourage our members to travel and experience life beyond our comfort zones. The following are some recent photographs taken by David Gill as he traveled around China for a month by himself.

People, places, memories...

8 Rankins Lane has had a rich history of colourful characters. The loft was previously used by Master of Illusion Sam Angelico, and the second floor was the work space for French/Australian artist, Mirka Mora.
